Diamond Oaks Australian Shepherds started our breeding program with these outstanding individuals they were smart quick and correct. They were willing to take on any task given to them, they were extremely intelligent and willing as all aussies should be but unfortunately some of the aussies today are losing that distinct aussieness that makes them such a special breed. This is why I have carefully chose my outcrosses, they must meet my expectations or they will not be included in my breeding program. Many of today's breeders get to caught up in chasing ribbons without enough attention paid to intelligence and physical function. Can he perform to his full potential? Does he have the mind and body to withstand the rigors of a working dog. These questions are just as important as coat, color, and bone. Because if he is not an aussie on the inside the rest does not matter much, our goal is to have it all and to strive for the best, but no dog is perfect and each one will have a physical or character flaw some little something that you wish you could change. These imperfections, give us something to to eliminate when looking forward to the next generation.

Our original dogs were selected for their conformation and temperament. Color as specified by breed standard is important, but second to physical ability and personality. Our breeding program never combines two merle-colored parents to increase the odds of obtaining merle-colored pups. Pups from merle-to-merle breeding often carry the "lethal white gene" which may impact the pup's ability to see or hear. Such practices may place undo hardship on the dog and the family that has acquired it. Our breeding program is designed to produce dogs that perform exceptionally well both mentally and physically
