My goal is

the preservation of this wonderful breed.  An Aussie must be intelligent, moderate and athletic.  He must be able to perform the tasks he was bred to do:  herding, guardian and family companion.  I value intelligence most of all.  If a dog is not intelligent he will never perform to his full potential.  I love performance dogs.  Obedience, agility and herding are the classes I prefer.  Because Aussies are high drive, they are not for everyone.  They need people who will direct the dogs energy into positive  outlets.  We are located in Skiatook Oklahoma, About 35 minutes NW of Tulsa.  Call or e-mail for available puppies.

Diamond Oaks works

to produce Australian Shepherds with high intelligence, excellent conformation, good temperament and correct color.  Diamond Oak's Australian Shepherds are bred for the obedience ring, the show ring, the herding trial and personal companionship.

I would like to make people aware of kennels that are producing large numbers of puppies,  with total disregard to the impact they are having on the breed. Not to mention pet rescue the number of Australian Shepherds in Rescue has grown since the arrival of these kennels. It is not the farmer or Rancher who is causing this problem it is the mass producers.  They are producing strictly for the pet market or basically anybody who wants a cute puppy.   Representing themselves as reputable breeders.

Things to beware of are comparing dogs to livestock.  A cow or a horse will not produce 20 or more offspring in one year.  Also saying they are AKC inspected and approved.   AKC  only inspects Kennels that produce  7 or more litters a year.  They do not approve of kennels,  they only inspect to make sure the dogs are meeting minimal humane care and the breeder is keeping records.  These breeders usually say they have been breeding for years, which is usually a lie.  They are stretching the truth  counting childhood experiences with pets.  Your breeding experience should start when you have researched the breed and picked a breeding quality dog.  Not when they  purchased a pet and raised a litter.  A lot of these breeders have found bargain dogs not even knowing the pedigrees.  Just anything that has papers to breed and produce registered pups. They do not understand pedigrees. They do not understand the breed standard. I have also seen these breeders bragging about square boxy heads and massive bone,  long flowing soft or silky hair coats.  None of these are in the breed standard and are in fact the opposite of the breed standard.

Most of these people are breeding females every time they come in season and before they reach a minimal age of 2 years.   A female just is not mature enough to take care of her puppies until 2 years some older depending on the dog.  As soon as she starts to have trouble whelping rather than letting her rest they just buy a replacement. Because they have no regard for her genetic contribution to the breed. More than likely if they own her she was not an outstanding individual anyway.  But  she is still a living breathing animal that should not be disregarded for the almighty dollar. A lot of breeders are selling all pups with full papers. Translation  they don't care or are not educated enough to judge whether the dog or puppy is breeding quality.  Also beware of people who are breeding strictly for color.    But to a bad breeder the dogs they own are perfect and you should not think about or leave without one,  they only care about the sale not the dog and not the buyer.  A Bad breeder will always have puppies available and more on the way.

Things to look for when finding a reputable someone who researches pedigrees and knows their dogs pedigree without having to look it up.  That can tell you for what purpose and why the litter was bred.  About the parents, grandparent etc. because they knew the dogs.  A reputable breeder will usually have left over puppies. Why because they do not sell to just anybody who shows up with the cash. They also like to keep some pups and see how they grow and evaluate them as they grow.  Also look for someone who offers more than a 48 hour or two week guarantee,  unless you are paying a pet price or buying a dog with limited papers. If buying a breeding quality dog hips and eyes should be guaranteed for two and half years or until the dog is bred.  Also a good breeder will tell you negative things about the breed and the individual dogs.  No dog is perfect to a good breeder.  We like you to look at other breeders compare and shop around so you know you are making the right choice for your family.  Do not expect a good breeder to have puppies available all the time. You may have to put down a deposit and wait for a while for a special puppy. You are buying the genetics of the dog make sure he is sound then worry about color after all other criteria have been met.  I give contract and pedigree when you purchase the puppy.  I also don't breed back to back litters my females always have rest between litters.  I raise two to three litters a year.  I Give a lot of thought and planning to each litter.  I love to study pedigrees and raise performance Australian Shepherds.  My dogs are not for everyone and have a high energy level,  but love their people and staying in the house if given proper exercise they do well in suburbs.  Thank You for your time.
